Concordat to support research integrity

Code of Practice for Research

The Concordat to support research integrity provides a comprehensive national framework for good research conduct and its governance. The Concordat has been developed by Universities UK in collaboration with the funding and research councils, the Welcome Trust and various government departments.

The Concordat's commitments

This concordat seeks to provide a national framework for good research conduct and its governance. The University of Huddersfield is committed to: 

1. Upholding the highest standards of rigour and integrity in all aspects of research

2. Ensuring that research is conducted according to appropriate ethical, legal and professional frameworks, obligations and standards

3. Supporting a research environment that is underpinned by a culture of integrity and based on good governance, best practice, and support for the development of researchers

4. Using transparent, timely, robust and fair processes to deal with allegations of research misconduct should they arise

5. Working together to strengthen the integrity of research and to review progress regularly and openly

The University’s Research Committee is responsible for ensuring that the governance and policy context for the undertaking of research within the University is optimal (up-to-date with current legislation, ethically appropriate and fit-for-purpose).

The senior member of staff who oversees research integrity at the University is Professor Andrew Ball (Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange). Professor Ball is the Chair of the University Research Committee.

The member of staff who acts as the first point of contact for anyone wanting more information on matters of research integrity is Kirsty Taylor (Head of Research and Innovation Culture.

Research misconduct

There is a University procedure for Investigating Allegations of Misconduct in Researchas part of the wider University policies and procedures. This procedure follows UKRIO guidance.

The named point of contact for whistle-blowers or any other person wishing to raise concerns about the integrity of research at the University, including any allegations of misconduct is Professor Tim Thornton (Deputy Vice Chancellor).
