Contemporary literature and culture 

Contemporary literature and culture is a vital and thriving area of research at Huddersfield, with staff and postgraduate students exploring areas as diverse as relational poetics, adaptation theory, contemporary dystopias, and the ethics and aesthetics of dementia narratives.

Dr Sarah Falcus specialises in both contemporary women’s writing and the literary aesthetics of ageing. Currently, she is working on a co-authored study of narratives of dementia, including comic books, memoirs and novels.

Dr David Rudrum is an expert on the relationship between literature and philosophy, and on modern and contemporary literature. His most recent book – Supplanting the Postmodern – helps map out the shape of 21st Century culture in the aftermath of postmodernism. He is currently writing a monograph on relational poetics, and co-editing the Palgrave Handbook to Literature and Contemporary Philosophy.
