St Pauls Hall is a beautifully converted Georgian church built in 1829 that now provides a venue for a range of concerts by student soloists, ensembles and guest artists in the Music Department's annual Concerts Series. In November each year the Hall also hosts many of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival events – the Festival’s home is at the University of Huddersfield.
The building, which was renovated into a concert hall in 1980, seats 400 and houses a 3-manual 41-stop tracker-action recital organ (1977), two concert grand pianos, and a recording studio, together with outstanding lighting and sound-projection systems.
Phipps Hall is a flexible performance space, suitable for a wide range of musical events. Phipps Hall regularly hosts the hcmf// contemporary music festival (November) and the Electric Spring festival of live electroacoustic music (February). Phipps Hall is outfitted with a DMC lighting rig and is connected to the music department's recording studio.
The Atrium is the central foyer of the music department which doubles as a more informal performance space. The Atrium has hosted both student and professional events and is easily augmented with equipment from the departments tech store.
