The Huddersfield Music Research Showcase brings together five short, accessible talks from researchers across music, popular music and music production. The event explores how music works in practice, from heaviness and amplification in rock and metal to collaborative songwriting, immersive listening, performance, and the role of technology in shaping musical experience across different cultures and contexts.

Featuring presentations by Şebnem Altunkaya (Amplified Histories: The Politics of Anatolian Rock and the Resonances of the Saz), Prof. Jan Herbst (Heaviness in Metal Music Production: Reflections on Contemporary Approaches to Music Research), Prof. Hyunkook Lee (Dimensions of Immersive Audio Experiences), Dr Adam Martin and Dr Remy Haswell-Martin (Creative agency, affect, and atmosphere in collaborative songwriting), and Dr Katherine Williams (Eurovision and songwriting camps in the 21st century).

The afternoon is open to all and includes time for questions and informal discussion over free refreshments. Hosted by the Centre for Research in Music and its Technologies (CRMT) in collaboration with the Popular Music Studies Research Group (PMSRG).
