Temporary Contemporary - what's next?

Covid-19 has impacted Temporary Contemporary as a place-based initiative working in partnership with Kirklees Council. Since 2018, the project has expanded to create a cultural hub for arts and cultural practitioners/workers and academic researchers in the centre of Huddersfield town. 

To coincide with the book launch of Temporary Contemporary: creating vibrant spaces to support the conditions for creative and cultural activity, we invite you to participate in an afternoon event which considers the progress of the initiative to date and asks how we might continue to realise arts and cultural activities in-situ and within vacant spaces in Queensgate Indoor Market and in the Piazza Shopping area of Huddersfield.

We encourage you to think with us about the evolution and growth of Temporary Contemporary in a Covid context. What mechanisms and modes of delivery might be designed, developed and programmed to aid in the future development and sustainability of this initiative?

	Speakers - Susan Jones (published writer, commentator, and researcher on visual arts and artists' practice), Kath Davies and Robin Widdowson (Kirklees Council), Wilsons Republic (Darren Evans and Aidan Nolan). Chaired by Victoria McCorkell
1.45pm	Environmental/Climate Change - ecological approaches
	Speakers - Mike Prior (Kirklees Declares Emergency), Dr Anna Davidson (University of Huddersfield), Dr Ioanni Delsante (University of Huddersfield). Chaired by Laura Mateescu and Tabassum Ahmed (PhD students, University of Huddersfield).
1.55pm	Place-based/Public Space Huddersfield - mixed cultural ecology
	Speaker - Liz Ainge (East Street Arts). Chaired by Rowan Bailey
2.10pm	Breakout rooms for discussion (5 minutes break for participants before discussions start)
2.15pm	Discussions/prompts for thinking (30 minutes)
	The speakers listed above will be part of these breakout discussion rooms in order for us to collectively generate conversations with you as part of this event.
2.55pm	General discussion/feedback
3.15pm	Launch of 3 briefs - pitched by Victoria, Tabassum/Laura, Rowna and Liz
